Mission

We are a group of composers, performers, writers and thinkers of diverse backgrounds who wish to broaden conventional notions of musical experience. While we are all products of the academy, we all come from widely disparate backgrounds. We share a mutual respect for, and recognition of, the pluralism inherent in the ways we each create. Through collaborations with ensembles of all sizes and configurations, as well as through such diverse activities as lectures, publications and concerts, we seek to broaden both new music's repertoire and reception. We also want to foster a larger community of like-minded creators, practitioners and listeners in order to help counteract conservative intellectual tendencies that promote an exclusive view of music while challenging certain publicly held attitudes which regard music simply as either entertainment or background.
