    Skim 1.1-1.3
    Read 1.4-1.5 and make sure you know the definitions in bold.
    Read 1.6, look through Tables and Calculation Corner, and Appendix A (on scientific notation).
    Read 2.3-2.4. Be sure to know the definitions and how to do the calculations.

    Read the Spotlight on Pseudoscience (pp24-25) between Chapters 1 and 2.
    Think about responses to questions 5, 7, and 8.
    Browse this local website on Float Therapy.
    Then do some internet searches to see what else you can find about it. Is this something you would recommend? Why or why not?

    Read 3.3, 4.7-4.9, 6.1
    Go to the Web Elements website. For the elements at the corners of the periodic table (H, He, Cs, Rn), get values for the atomic radius and the first ionization energy before you come to class.
