As an applicant to the University of San Diego I was drawn in by its apparent inclusive environment and commitment to diversity. With a mission statement that promised to value “students, faculty and staff from different backgrounds and faith traditions,”...By denying Tina Beattie the right to speak on our campus, you have effectively rescinded my acceptance to this university...I officially accept your rescission and will be transferring as soon as possible. Take back the $56,000 and my spot in the Honors Program, I’d much rather keep my voice. read more

Conor McLaughlin's letter to President Lyons. Dec. 7, 2012

I was one of the students that asked you a question during the forum on Tina Beattie this past Tuesday. I want you to know that I was very hurt by the way that you responded to me, as well as to many of my fellow students...You offered no guidance for healing, and seemed more concerned that students be educated on your thought process and rationale rather than knowing you were really hearing the pain, confusion and sadness that students were expressing to you. And you gave no student a reason to forgive and move forward, but rather a rallying cry to everyone that disagreed with you that they should now intensify their distrust and anger toward you.
