Dopamine-containing Neurons of C. elegans

CEPs - four neurons of the cephalic sensilla, dorsal & ventral, right & left (four-fold symmetry), somas located around nerve ring. Each sensory cell extends a ciliated dendrite to the tip of the nose, and processes into the nerve ring. Found in both hermaphrodite and male. (CEPDL = AB.plaaaaappa; CEPDR = AB.arpapaappa; CEPVL = AB.plpaappppa; CEPVR = AB.prpaappppa)

ADEs - anterior deirid neurons, ADE Right & Left (bilaterally symmetric) , somas located laterally over terminal bulb of pharynx. Each sensory neuron extends a ciliated dendrite into the cuticle. Found in both hermaphrodite and male. (ADER = AB.prapaaaapa; ADEL = AB.plapaaaapa)

PDEs - postdeirid neurons, PDE Right & Left (bilaterally symmetric) , somas located subdorsally, at about 2/3 body length. Each sensory neuron extends a ciliated dendrite into the cuticle, and process ventrally that bifurcates in the ventral nerve cord. Found in both hermaphrodite and male. (PDER = V5R.paaa; PDEL = V5L.paaa)
PDE neuron stained with anti-serotonin and TRITC-conjugated secondary antibody (?! - see figure legend for explanation)

R5As, R7As, R9As - six ray sensory neurons associated with rays 5, 7 and 9 (right & left - bilaterally symmetric); each sensory ray has two neurons (A & B). The DA neurons are all "A" neurons. Male-specific. (R5AR/L = V6(R/L).pppppaaa; R7AR/L = T(R/L).apappaaa; R9AR/L = T(R/L).appapaaa)
