Internship Possibilities for USD Mathematics Students
Internships set up by the Math Department awaiting interested students (contact Diane Hoffoss if you are interested)
- Computational Chemistry as part of a research project with Dr. Tammy Dwyer in the Chemistry Department at USD
- Working with Dr. Daniel Sheehan in the Physics Department at USD on one of the following projects:
- Modeling parameter space for a newly proposed track and field event:
catapulting, the horizontal analog to pole vaulting. It's entirely new, so any good, relevant
work is likely publishable.
- Using sophisticated commercial solid state codes to tackle an
interesting thermodynamic paradox involving the second law.
- Mathematical modeling of nonlinear fluid behavior of a laboratory
experiment we're just finishing in his lower Loma lab. It has application
to solar system formation.
- Dr. Jeff Wright, four students and Dr. Sheehan hope to propose to do a fluid
experiment on NASA's Vomit Comit. They will definitely need modeling for
this project.
