Although there remains a large difference in LSAT scores among the various ethnic groups admitted, there is a profound drop in the difference between the GPAs among the ethnic groups compared to prior years. Since UCD uses an admission index formula where 82% of the score is assigned to the LSAT clearly some "race norming" is still being applied in the admission decision. Never-the-less, it is obvious that UCD Law is making a determined effort to move beyond an admission process based largely upon racial preferences. Clearly academic factors cannot be the entire basis for the decision in admitting students. But it is nonsense to believe that other qualities such as suffering economic adversity, leadership, willingness to serve and the like are confined to one ethnic group.
A dramatic change in the amount of racial preferences shown in admissions over last year.
Under this formula the highest possible score is 7.6 for a perfect LSAT of 180 and a 4.00 GPA
This formula also shows that the LSAT accounts for 82% of the value of the index used to determine admissions.
