The average GPA earned by the Black/Hispanic accepted students is such that they rank in the lowest 6% relative to that of the Asian/Whites accepted.
On the basis of average MCAT scores these Black/Hispanic accepted students rank in the lowest 10% of the Asian/Whites accepted.
Even if one ignores all issues of grades and MCAT examination results, the probability of this many Black/Hispanic acceptances given the number who applied is less than 1 in 4 million. If one examines applicants with similar grades and MCAT scores the probability is much less and the chances far fewer. Clearly racial preferences play a profound role in the selecting of those who are admitted.Likewise attendance at one of the 19 California State Universities pretty much precludes acceptance. Only 2 Asian/White applicants were admitted and 4 Black/Hispanics.
This chart uses the GPA earned in the required premed courses as it is a common factor among applicants.
In the GPA range below 3.60 and average MCAT of less than 10 it is almost unheard of for an Asian/White applicant to be admitted even though they account for over 80% of the applicants within these ranges.
Approximately 33% of accepted students are not residents of California. The acceptance rate for private school graduates is profoundly higher than that for public university graduates. For example, the larger University of California campuses will each have 5 to 10 times as many applicants to UCSF as do Stanford and Harvard.
