Send me an e-mail!

E-mail is by far the best way to get in touch with me for any purpose, whether it's a question about the reading, a follow-up on class discussion, or something I need to know. I generally check my e-mail two or three times a day, so you're likely to get a response within a few hours. And because the response is in writing, it's more likely to make sense, and if it doesn't, you can keep going over it until it does.

There are just two things I'd like you to do before sending a message:

  1. Put something in the "Subject" line that lets me know you're one of my students. I get a lot of junk e-mail (spam), some of it containing viruses, so when I get something from an unrecognized address with a subject header that says only "Hello" or "Help", I'm likely to delete it without looking at it. It doesn't have to be long or detailed, just something like, "Descartes Question", or "Kant", or the name of the course, or your name. Just so it doesn't look like spam.

  2. If you know how, please turn off HTML in your message. If you don't, go here or here to find out why HTML in e-mail is a bad idea, and how to turn it off in Hotmail, AOL, etc.

So go ahead, send me an e-mail.
