Author: John Halgren of Abbeville (d. 1247)
Dating: John Halgren (Alegrin or Helgrin) was born at Abbeville in the last quarter of the twelfth century. He studied at Paris with Hugolino of Ostia, the future Gregory IX. He became master of theology in Paris in 1217. John was dean of the see of Ameians from 1218 to 1225. In 1225, he became archbishop of Besançon. In 1226, he was appointed Patriarch of Constantinople. Gregory IX created John Cardinal-bishop of Santa Sabina in 1227. He carried out several important missions before his death in 1237.
