Author: William de la Mare, O.F.M.Paris 1274-5
Dates: According to Kraml, William was undoubtedly of
English origins and became Master Regent in Paris in 1274/5. In 1282,
the Minister General of the Franciscans, Bonagratia, prescribed that
Franciscans not read Thomas Aquinas without the Correctorium
Fratris Thomae of William. William wrote the Correctorium
in at least two recensions. A biblical scholar of note, he produced a
Correctio textus bibliae and a linguistic aid to the original
languages of scripture, De hebraeis et graecis vocabilis glossarum
bibliae.
It is important to supplement the information given by Kaml, pp.
13*-14* with the articles by D. A. Callus, "William de la Mare,"
NCE 14:928B-929A and E. Longpré, "De la Mare,
Guillaume," DTC 8b (1925): 2467-70.
