My Philosophy of Teaching
I enjoy teaching, passionately care for my students, and keep developing and improving my teaching strategies to meet their needs. My Philosophy for a good teacher is to be:
continuous learner critical thinker effective communicator proactive researcher continuous professional development as a challenger and teacher participating in various communities of learners
My role as teacher is to assist and guide my students to learn and grow so they are responsible, knowledgeable, ethical, critical, and contributing citizens in the field of education. In my classes, the role of my students will be proactive learners, thinkers, communicators, partners for teaching, and problem-solvers. I believe the key to success in teaching is to build up communities of learners. That is, building a partnership with learners: my students, colleagues, faculty, staff, and communities. My teaching strategy is not the usual lecture approach. Instead, I have used diverse and dynamic teaching approaches in my classes. I have focused on project-based learning and teaching implementing constructivist theoretical methods. I have used small and big discussions, demonstrations, examples, hands-on activities, individual and group projects, essay exam, various portfolio, rubrics, self-reflection, and peer assessment.
As I described my philosophy, role of teaching, and teaching strategies as as an educator, I am confident that my quality academic training at Kansas State University and my various teaching experiences in working with diverse groups (e.g., adults, elementary and secondary level students), I have gained and built a strong foundations as a quality teacher. Throughout my teaching experiences and educations, I have learned to be:
persistent good care giver (care for my students and their needs) good listener flexible ( with cognitive flexibility) Knowledgeable in subject area (SME: subject matter expert) continuous designer of the curriculum implementing new ways of teaching/ learning critical and ethical - decision maker aware of current issues and trends in my field understanding differences and similarities, respect for others, and racial harmony great respect for others perspectives and value them preciously.
I always want to be a teacher. As a proactive researcher and teacher, I will keep developing and improving my teaching strategies to meet my students needs.
