HOMEWORK #17: Due Tuesday, November 10th:

Homework is due on my desk before class begins.

Reading Assignment:

Read:          * Read chapter 9 in the book to remind yourself of some of the basic ideas.

Reading Questions:

·        What is a polynomial? How is the degree of a polynomial determined?

·        What is a coefficient?

·        Look carefully at the section on dividing polynomials, and reacquaint yourself with long division.  Compare and contrast using the long division algorithm for dividing polynomials to using the long division algorithm for dividing numbers.

·        Write some comments and questions on these sections.

Homework Assignment:

·     Please write on the top right-hand of your homework how long you spent on this homework—writing your pen-pal letter, reading and solving problems.

·     pp.380-381, #10-15, set iv.

·     Continue to work on the midterm review (pp. 388-392).

·     Explain to a couple of people (roommates, friends, family members) your understanding of an exponential function.


Exam number 2 will be on Thursday, November 19th and an oral part of the exam will be the following Tuesday.

 

HOMEWORK #18: Due Thursday, November 12th (to be turned in on Tuesday with additional homework):

Homework is due on my desk before class begins.

Reading Assignment:

Read:          * Read chapter 10 in the book to remind yourself of some of the basic ideas.

Reading Questions:

·        What does it mean to factor?

·        List the different types of polynomials that could be factored with some examples.

·        Write some comments and questions on these sections.

Homework Assignment:

·     Please write on the top right-hand of your homework how long you spent on this homework—writing your pen-pal letter, reading and solving problems.

·     p.398, #15,16; p.404#14,17; p.410#15; p.416#9,12,iv; p.420#10; p.428#12,16

·     Continue to work on the midterm review (pp. 388-392) and your notes.

·     Make up your quizzes as soon as possible.
