HOMEWORK #20: Due Tuesday, December 1st:

Reading Assignment:

Read:          * Reread chapter 11 (on fractions) in the book to remind yourself of some of the basic ideas.

Reading Questions:

·        What is a fraction?

·        Show some ways in which we can represent fractions pictorially.

·        What are equivalent fractions?

·        What are algebraic fractions?

·        What has to be true about the value of the denominator of an algebraic fraction? Explain.

·        Show some examples of adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions.  Show how this can be represented using pictures.

·        What are complex fractions?

·        Write some comments and questions on these sections.

 

Homework Assignment:

·     Please write on the top right-hand of your homework how long you spent on this homework—writing your pen-pal letter, reading and solving problems.

·     Start the homework (to be turned in Thursday) pp.504-505#19,20,21, p.511-512:#13,16, p.518:#8,9,iv; p.524-525#13,14, pp.530-531:#10,11, p.536-537:#11, p.542-543:#13, pp.548-549:#7, optional:#9)

·        What is a fractional power?

·        What properties apply to fractional powers?

·        What would you do to add the square root of 2 and the square root of 3?

·        What is a radical equation?

·        What is a quadratic equation?

·        Write some comments and questions on these sections.
