HOMEWORK #7: Due Tuesday, September 29th:

Homework is due on my desk before class begins.

Reading Assignment:

Read:          * Read Chapter 2, lessons 4, 5 and 6 in the book to remind yourself of some of the basic ideas.

Reading Questions:

·        What is direct variation? Give an example of a situation where there is a direct variation.

·        What is a linear function?  Give an example of a situation in your life that shows a linear relationship.

·        Describe all you know about linear functions.

·        What is inverse variation? Give an example of a situation in your life that shows inverse variation.

·        Write some comments and questions on these sections.

 

Homework Assignment:

·     Please write on the top right-hand of your homework how long you spent on this homework—writing your pen-pal letter, reading and solving problems.

·     Do the following exercises:

pp.69-71, #10-14; Optional: p.71#IV.

pp.76-77, #13,15,17; Optional: p.77#IV.

pp.82-83, #9,10,11, Optional: p.83#IV.

Reading Assignment:

Read:          * Read Chapter 2, lesson 6 and chapter 3 in the book to remind yourself of some of the basic ideas.

Reading Questions:

·        What are integers? 

·        Give some examples of real life use of negative numbers.

·        Why does the book introduce protons and antiprotons?

·        Show pictorial representations of the following: 7-3, 3-7, -3-9, 4+(-5), 3*(-5), -5*(4), -5*(-2), -6/2, 6/(-2), -6/(-2)

·        Are there any differences in the order of operations when working with whole numbers from the order of operations when working with natural numbers?

·        Write some comments and questions on these sections.

 

Homework Assignment:

·     Please write on the top right-hand of your homework how long you spent on this homework—writing your pen-pal letter, reading and solving problems.

·     Answer your pen pal letters.  Please let me know if you have questions.

·     Do the following exercises:

pp.88-89, #11,12,13,14,15,17; Optional: p.#16,IV.

pp.94-95, #10,11,12,13,15; Optional: p.#14,IV.

Plan to attend the first study session for Math 115 with food and drinks immediately after class on Thursday, October 1st.

Exam #1 is on Thursday, October 8th.
