HOMEWORK #11: Due Tuesday, October 13th:

Homework is due on my desk before class begins.

Reading Assignment:

Read:          * Re-read section 4.2 and read the first five sections of chapter 5 in the book to remind yourself of some of the basic ideas.

Reading Questions:

·        What is an equation?

·        What does it mean to solve an equation? What is a solution to an equation?

·        Use pictorial representations to prove the properties of addition and multiplication on page 201.

·        What can be done to an equation and insure that the resulting equation is equivalent to the original?

·        Write some comments and questions on these sections.

 

Homework Assignment:

·     Please write on the top right-hand of your homework how long you spent on this homework—writing your pen-pal letter, reading and solving problems.

·     Look at the handout “One Equals Zero” from class.  Explain what was done incorrectly that led to the conclusion 1=0.

·     Write your pen pal letter.

Homework is due on my desk before class begins.

Reading Assignment:

Read:          * Read lessons 6, 7 and 8 in chapter 5 in the book to remind yourself of some of the basic ideas.

Reading Questions:

·        What is the perimeter of a region? What is the area of a region?

·        What is the relationship between rate, distance and time?

·        What are some important issues to remember when solving rate problems?

·        Write some comments and questions on these sections.

 

Homework Assignment:

·     pp.159-160: 11, 12, 13, 14.

·     pp.184-185: 8,9,10, optional: 11, iv

·     pp.190-191: 13, 14

·     pp.198-199: 11,13,17,iv

·     pp.204-205: 10,11,12,13, optional: iv
