Jan Oderfeld (born February 19, 1908) is a Polish mathematician, engineer, and professor. Among the major achievements in his extremely productive career were



·   design and construction of an advanced turbine jet engine, implemented in innovative Polish planes in 1930s

·   PhD thesis in mathematical statistics under Hugo Steinhaus (1949)

·   design of magnetic drum memory in 1960s

·   long-time service as an editor of Applicationes Mathematicae, a well-known journal published by the Institute of Mathematics of the Polish Academy of Sciences

·   long-time service on the faculty of the Warsaw University of Technology

 

On February 19, 2008, on his 100th birthday, he was awarded the title Doctor Honoris Causa of the Warsaw University of Technology.
