Dr. Dirk Yandell, Professor of Economics in the School of Business Administration, began at USD as an undergraduate student in 1973, completing a B.A. degree in mathematics and economics in 1977. He then earned his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in economics from Purdue University and returned to join the USD faculty in 1981. Dr. Yandell has taught over twenty different courses at USD. He enjoys integrating experimental methods into the classroom, and regularly receives top teaching evaluations. He has received a number of teaching awards, including the Sears Roebuck Foundation Excellence and Campus Leadership Award, USD's Innovative Undergraduate Business Educator award, and has been recognized as Professor of the Year by the USD Graduate Business Student Association. His book, Using Experiments, Cases, and Activities in the Classroom (Prentice Hall, Inc., 3rd ed., 2007) reflects his interest in experimental economics and classroom pedagogy. He has also published a number of articles in the areas of business economics and public policy and is a member of the editorial board for the journal Perspectives on Economic Education Research. Dr. Yandell teaches in USD's master's degree programs in Executive Leadership and has been a faculty member in USD's MS in Global Leadership program, the Institute for Project Management, and the USD/SDSU Institute for Quality and Productivity. He has consulted and led seminars in the areas of quality management, statistical process control, cost estimating, present value analysis, and contract pricing. He regularly serves as an economic expert witness in court cases.
