Zhi-Yong (John) Yin

Climatology, Quantitative Methods, GIS and
Remote Sensing.
Zhi-Yong (John) Yin was raised
and educated in Beijing, China. After he earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees in
physical geography
from Peking University, he came to the University of Georgia and completed
his Ph.D.
degree in 1990. After teaching at the Department of Geography
of Georgia State University for 13 years, he came to
the Department of Marine Science and Environmental Studies at the University of
San Diego in 2003. His academic interests include effects of human activities on stream systems and water
resources, recent climatic fluctuations, applied climatology, and applications of GIS and remote sensing in physical geography and
environmental studies. His past research involves hydrology of the Okefenokee Swamp, site
location for groundwater wells, urban hydrology, and recent climatic fluctuations in China,
Tibetan Plateau,
and the United States. He offers courses in introductory physical geography, hydrology,
introductory mapping and spatial data analysis, GIS, and
remote sensing.
