Instructions for Spring 2012

First week of the semester

1. After you complete safety training (Jan 26, 1:30pm is the first session), your name and card ID will be sent to Starla Tudor the building manager so you can get your card coded.

2. Come by my office to set up a weekly half-hour meeting with me. I will put this on the AirSet calendar.

3. If you don't have one, make yourself a South Park Avatar (with white background) and upload it (see note in the Forum as to how to do this). Then send me a jpeg file so I can use it for Research Group presentations.

During the semester

4. Whenever you're doing research or have blocked off time to do research, put in the calendar. Put it in your own tab and then "share" it to Kua Research Group. See the Calendar Wiki Page if you need more details.

5. Progress Reports should be uploaded to the Files Section once every three weeks on a Monday. Due dates are posted in the group calendar.

6a. Depending on how many units of research you are signed up in Chem496 for, you should try to spend at least 4 hours per unit per week.
6b. If you are enrolled in Chem396W, you are signed for 2 units of research, i.e., at least 8 hours per week, and you are required to log your research hours.
6c. Of course if you spend more time on research, you get to push the research project forward. With sufficient progress, your research may even be publishable in a journal and/or you may have the opportunity to present a poster or give a talk at a conference.

7. Try and use the "Lists" section to keep track of your project. It helps you and it helps me.

Last week of the semester or Finals week

8. At the end of the semester you will compile a Final Report. If you've taken the time to write good Progress Reports, you'll mostly cut and paste and add in some text to string things together into a coherent story.
