Economy Analysis Assignment

This is a team assignment involving the analysis of the economy of the United States or a foreign country.  The requirements for the assignment are indicated below:

1.  Provide some background about the economy of your country.  What are some of the country's major economic sectors?

2.  Summarize the current state of your country's economy.  Is it doing well or doing poorly?  What are the trends for the major economic indicators?  Are there any sectors of the economy that are doing particularly well or particularly poorly?  What factors, events, or issues are impacting the economy at this point?

3.  Discuss the state of government economic policy in this country.  Is the tax level high or low?  Is the level of government spending high or low?  Is the country running a budget surplus or deficit?  What is the central bank doing in terms of monetary policy?  Are interest rates in the country high or low?  Are the fiscal and monetary policies in this country appropriate given the state of the economy?

4.  Discuss the current international economic situation for your country.  Does the country have a fixed or floating exchange rate?  If floating, what is the trend for the currency in relation to the major world currencies (U.S. dollar, Japanese yen, Euro)?  What is the country's trade situation?

5.  What is your forecast for your country's economy in the short-term future?  Is this country a good place to establish or expand operations in the near future?

Please submit your analysis in the form of a double-spaced typed report of 10+ pages. You are welcome to include tables, charts, and figures to support your analysis. Be sure to properly cite any sources that are used. Please do not submit the report in a special report cover; a stable in the upper left hand corner would be adequate. The output may also be submitted as an e-mail attachment. It is due sometime between July 18 and July 27.
