University Canyon

Background

Former USD President Hughes initiated this project in the Spring of 1991 after hearing that vandalism had increased significantly in Linda Vista. Several USD departments, Linda Vista schools, agencies and police representatives met to identify needs of Linda Vista youth. AS community service sponsors activities at the following sites: Bayside Settlement, Linda Vista Library, and University Canyon. University Canyon is a public housing project of the San Diego Housing Commission.

Community Service Learning Activities/Outcomes

Tutoring or after school recreation at the University Canyon learning center.

Needs addressed

Children need individual attention and academic support. Parents may be single or dual career; all are low income.

Directions

Van transportation is available. To use van service please report to Maher 218. Directions to the site will be provided at orientation.

Orientation

Orientation/Training will be held on Tuesday, February 11 at 12:30 in UC161.
