Leading Economic Indicators
Up Slightly in December
The University of San Diego's Index of Leading Economic Indicators for San Diego County
rose 0.1 percent in December. Four
components--initial claims for unemployment insurance, local stock prices,
consumer confidence, and the outlook for the national economy--were positive
during the month, with initial claims for unemployment insurance and consumer
confidence particularly strong. These offset big declines in building
permits and help wanted advertising to leave the Index up slightly for the
month.
